Love Improves A Child's Behavior
Before you give up on your "difficult kid" read this story about how the power of love turned an emotionally disturbed child into an ideal student.
One of my first experiments with the power of love occurred while I was working as a counselor/instructor at an alternative program for juvenile offenders. Johnny was an emotionally troubled boy with a knack for alienating adults. He seemed to find endless ways to disrupt class and place himself at the center of everyone's attention.
I am not an easy person to upset, but this boy was quite good at stimulating great distress in me. For some reason he focused all of his attention on me, creating so much stress that I seriously considered quitting my job.
During this difficult time someone reminded me about using the spiritual power of love to transform relationships and situations. I wasn't convinced it would work but I decided to test the power of this simple process in this impossible situation.
I was so angry with Johnny for causing me immeasurable pain that I found it difficult to visualize love surrounding him. Fortunately for me Johnny broke a school rule against fighting and was suspended for two weeks. During his absence I diligently practiced the technique not really expecting much to change.
When Johnny returned to school I was amazed at his transformation. I had hoped for some small improvement but in my wildest fantasy, I would not have dreamed the difference love could make in this boy's attitude toward me. All of a sudden, we were best friends. He could not do enough to please me.
Everywhere I went he followed. It was as if I had something he needed, and, of course, I did. In my mind I was constantly surrounding him with the love and light he so desperately wanted.
Now, this technique did not cure Johnny's emotional problems. However, it did drastically improve the way Johnny related to me, allowing me to be a more positive influence in his life. In the past he had so alienated the adults in his life, he had eliminated most relationships where he could receive encouragement and positive reinforcement, essential ingredients in the development of a healthy, happy, and productive adult.
The power of love may not immediately cure all that is wrong with your “difficult kid” but it will give you space in your relationship to support, enjoy, and encourage your child's “better” behavior.
Research has repeatedly shown the value of positive encounters with adults on a child's development. This technique will give you pockets of positive time with your child that will expand as you continue to use the spiritual power of love.
You too can use the power of love to change your life.
