Stop Spinning Plates!
Before I share with you the use of spiritual forces to assist you in creating the reality of your choice, I want to remind you that it is the Greater Self or True Identity that has the power we have been discussing. You can make things happen in your life through the force of your personality self; however, it takes a lot of energy and the results are not as profound.
The image that comes to mind is the difference between starting a fire with a magnifying glass and using two sticks. Both methods will give you fire. Rubbing two sticks together takes tremendous personal effort to create the friction needed for sparks to fly. It takes concentration and a steady rhythm to succeed. You are required to use the force of your own muscles to generate the energy to start a flame. Granted, you are using the elements within nature as the source of the flame, but you, the personality self, must focus the energy of your body to release the fire.
Using a magnifying glass allows you to use the energy of the sun to create fire. You must choose where you want the fire to start. You gather the kindling, place the magnifying glass in position, and wait for the energy of the sun to do the work you require. Your job is to simply hold a focus for the rays of the sun. The energy within those rays does the rest.
And so it is with the use of spiritual power. Until you understand that it is the “Father within that does the work,” the personality self will strain and buckle under the effort it takes to create the reality you want to experience. If you are dependent only on the power contained within the personality self, it will take a great deal of affirmation, visualization, and prayer to change the circumstances in your life. You can create with the energy of the personality self but your creations that will not be self sustained. As soon as you let go of your focus, the manifestation seems to fall apart.
I once watched an act on a television variety show. The performer was balancing plates on poles and spinning the plates. He had ten or more poles on the stage. Once he got the plates spinning, he had to run around the stage respinning the plates to keep them in the air. As soon as he spun one plate another would slow down. He was constantly running from pole to pole until the act was over. If you feel like you constantly are spinning plates to keep your creations in the air, you are probably using the energy of the personality self to change the events in your life.
I have been applying these principles in my life for many years and yet I still find the personality self taking on a sense of “responsible struggle.” At these times I have somehow lost my sense of trust in the Great I AM. I have turned my attention to the old belief, that if things are going to be done, they are dependent upon me, the personality self. I find myself paying attention to all the details of my creation. My internal stance is no longer one of relaxation and flow; I have taken a defensive posture, ready for battle. I can feel myself pushing against the river. I am easily tired, and worry is inching its way into my consciousness. My spiritual practices feel like work instead of pure joy.
Fortunately, I have learned to recognize these symptoms. When I find myself struggling with the tools of creation, I know it is time to regroup, let go, and let God. Listed below are some of the things I do to get back on track with God in charge. Use them if you find yourself spinning plates in your life.

Exercise: Let Go and Let God
- Meditate, connecting to the God within.
- Remind the personality self it is “The Father within that does the work.”
- Mentally see the personality self relaxing its grip on your creative work.
- Develop and use affirmations to remind the self it is the God within, the Greater Self, doing everything (I AM the doer and the deed. I AM the power acting; I AM the wisdom directing; I AM the substance being acted upon. God is everywhere present; God is everywhere intelligent; and God is everywhere powerful. There is no where that God is not.).
