The Power Of Prayer

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8

A Personal Message From Marty Varnadoe Dow,
Author of How To Soar Through Life With Power and Grace! eCourse

Prayer is a fundamental tool in learning to soar through life with power and grace. There are as many forms of prayer as there are religions in the world; however, the basis of all prayer is the desire to communicate with the Spirit. As man experiences a need for contact with the higher realms, he reaches out in prayer. Most often, prayers are a request for assistance from a power greater than oneself. For many people, it is only at the times of our greatest need that we reach out to God for help in prayer.

As we recognize who we are as Spiritual Beings, with the power to create the reality of our choice, we will learn to use prayer on a daily basis. True prayer is not a way of getting God to do something for us, but a method of expanding our own consciousness so that we can accept all that God has already provided.

Remember that the will of God is perfection everywhere now. It is God’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. God’s will is for you to prosper and be in good health. If God’s absolute good is not true in your experience, there is something blocking God’s will from manifesting in your life. True prayer, sometimes called scientific prayer, is a method of clearing the limiting beliefs from our inner realms, convincing us of the power of God and His will for perfection everywhere in our lives, and allowing us to accept this good now.

The foundation of all effective prayer is based on the principle Jesus taught 2000 years ago. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8). James tells us,“you do not have, because you do not ask God” (James 4:2b).

Many people base their prayer life on the assumption that God will provide whatever is needed without being asked. They believe God knows what is best for them and to ask would be a rejection of His will for their lives. A laissez faire attitude of simply accepting whatever comes into one’s life, as a demonstration of God’s will, is not based on the teachings of Jesus or the principles of True Prayer.  There is nothing passive about living in your True Identity as a Spiritual Being and co-creator with God.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, ... and God said, ‘Let there be light’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3). God, the great creator, commanded whatever he wanted to be done, and it was done. Jesus gives us the same example in His life. He spoke the word and whatever he commanded was done.

Being co-creators with God requires us to choose what we desire to experience in our lives. Free will gives us the ability to choose experiences that are other than the will of God; nevertheless, His will is perfection everywhere now.

It is important to remember that you are experiencing the choices you have made in your life. God’s will is pressing in around you all the time; however you can still choose suffering, lack, and struggle based on faulty beliefs accumulated from the race mind. You may not have consciously asked for these experiences, but as you understand the power of free will and the principles of creating reality, you can rechoose and ask for the will of God to manifest into your life.

If what you are experiencing is less than perfection, you can be sure it is not a gift from God. Now, that is not to say that God can not turn any situation into a blessing, for He will if you will greet all life with thanksgiving.

The greatest blessing that can come from any situation is the transformation of you from a limited being who feels powerless and angry to a Divine Being of Light who uses the spiritual forces to create perfection on earth. Therefore, greet all of your creations with the understanding that since you brought them about, you can change them through the power of God within you. Learn the lesson life brings you, and allow the power of God to awaken you to your True Identity, manifesting love and light wherever you go.

The point I am making is that God expects you to choose, ask, and receive. He has given you everything you need to create perfection (His Will) in your life, but you must do the work of desiring and asking. Prayer is one tool for manifesting your desires into reality!
