Can the situations in your life transform you into something new?
In the following vision, I was shown how the difficulties and wounds in my life were simply stepping stones to the birth of my greater good. With patience and understanding a crisis can turn your caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly.
Years ago while I was meditating, I had a vision that illustrates the point I am trying to make. In this vision I was a black and white caterpillar crawling along the ground. I came upon a tree that attracted my attention. Traveling up this tree was not easy. I had to grip hold of my position on the tree with my many back legs as I stretched forward with my upper legs. Only when I had a firm grip on my new position was I able to release the hold that my back legs held to the tree. Traveling up the tree was a slow process that required my undivided attention.
In this journey, I had to cross several rough places on the tree bark. My belly was cut and wounded as I traversed this difficult terrain. Finally, I made it up to a branch near the top of the tree. I slowly crawled out this branch holding on for dear life with all my tiny feet. As I hung suspended in midair, a fibrous substance came out of my wounded belly and wrapped itself around the branch and me. Soon I was wrapped in a cocoon and securely attached to the branch.
Do you feel suspended in mid-air?
There seemed to be nothing to do but wait. I allowed myself to rest in the security of my cocoon. Eventually, I could feel that my form was changing. I could feel wings growing out of my body. These wings began to stretch and flap. As my newly formed wings gained strength they cracked the cocoon open and a beautiful purple butterfly with golden specks was released. I was now back in my own body watching this magnificent iridescent butterfly as it flew around my heart. Eventually, it landed on my third eye, dissolved into me and filled my body with the colors of purple and gold.
Is your crisis a part of your spiritual evolution?
The symbols in this vision contained much information about the spiritual evolution in which we are all participating. In our journey back to Divinity, we begin as lowly mortals crawling through the earthly experiences of duality (represented by the black and white caterpillar) with its limitations. Eventually we notice that there is something higher for us to experience and we begin the climb (up the tree) of spiritual evolution. This journey can at times feel arduous and scary. Often we feel stuck in old patterns (our back feet gripping the tree to hold our position) while we stretch to grasp new concepts (our front feet reaching for a new position). The spiritual path can often seem slow and up hill as we learn to transform the old into the new. Sometimes when we get near the top of our journey we feel we are suspended between heaven and earth uncertain of our safety (hanging on for dear life to the tree branch).
Are you ready to soar through life with power and grace?
The wounds we experience (the belly wounds caused by the roughness of the bark) in life contain the raw materials (the fibrous substance which creates the cocoon) for our transformation. Eventually we understand that the true meaning of the path is a complete transmutation from one species, human (caterpillar), into another, Divine (butterfly), and allow ourselves to rest in the certainty of our spiritual evolution (hanging out in the cocoon). When the "new birth" is complete, we come forth in all the glory of our Divinity (wearing the colors of purple and gold). We soar through life with power and grace (the butterfly flying freely).
This is the "Great Transformation" that is occurring right now in the life of every person on earth. It does not matter if he or she recognizes the process or not. As we learn to use the experiences of everyday life and trust in the innate process of transformation we can let go of the struggle and grow with joy.
